Williams's 'Housewives' role revealed?

Details of Vanessa Williams's role on Desperate Housewives have reportedly been released.

The show's creator Marc Cherry confirmed in May that the Ugly Betty star will join the cast for the next season.

When he announced the news, Cherry said: "I'm a big fan of Vanessa's work and I'm so excited that she'll be moving into the neighbourhood next season to cause trouble in all the ladies' lives."

TV Guide has now claimed that Williams will play Renee Filmore-Jones, a housewife who knew Lynette (Felicity Huffman) in college. The pair are expected to continue the rivalry they had when they were on campus together.

Renee is also said to have a husband, Keith Jones, who has not yet been cast. However, the couple have no children and Renee is thought to be dissatisfied with her life. The report also claimed that Williams's character will have a secret.

The sixth season of Desperate Housewivescontinues in the UK on Wednesdays at 10pm on Channel 4.
