‘Simpsons’ used as teaching aid


Homer Simpson, one of America's most quoted contemporary philosophers, once said cartoons have no deep meaning -- "They're just stupid drawings that give you a cheap laugh," he said in 1991 during the third season of The Simpsons dvd season.

Almost 20 years and 400 episodes after Homer made that the simpsons dvd box set, a Saskatoon legal education group is using his words, and those of the rest of the cast of the long-running cartoon sitcom, to teach high school students about law and the simpsons dvd|the simpsons.

The Saskatoon-based Public Legal Education the simpsons dvds (PLEA) sent Saskatchewan high schools 6,000 copies of its newsletter, Learning About Law with The Simpsons, for use in law and social studies classes.

"Everybody knows the simpsons seasons dvd so you can use something familiar to make something less familiar easier to understand," said Jonas Kiedrowski, PLEA youth and schools coordinator and author of the the simpsons complete dvd box set.

"There's lots of law-related concepts going on in The Simpsons and you can use that as a building block to better understand the the simpsons complete season."

PLEA, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in the simpsons complete seasons dvd, is a non-profit NGO that offers legal education, but not legal advice, about the rights and responsibilities of the simpsons complete dvd.

PLEA's 12-page newsletter takes aspects of criminal and civil the simpsons box set, such as frivolous lawsuits and crime and punishment, and relates the issues to situations found within The Simpsons.

Lionel Hutz, the simpsons on dvd's infamous and moderatly successful lawyer, makes several appearances in PLEA's newsletter.
