Dexter - The Benevolent Serial Killer

Welcome to the world of Dexter dvd. A man who has knowledge of good and evil, but who has a compulsion to kill by chopping up people who "deserve" it. Someone who plays the part of a completely normal functioning person in society while hiding this dark secret. His idea of excitement isn't intimacy with his girlfriend, but a psychological cat-and-mouse with a fellow serial killer.

The excellence in the show's development and writing doesn't come from the simple irony of a police forensics analyst being a Dexter 1-3 dvdserial killer or any of those other previously mentioned mechanisms. It pulls off its brilliance through the subtlety of a person who knows he's different and playing all the games that "normal" people play to the best of their ability.

"Dexter" also builds a strange empathy towards Dexter. The viewer knows Dexter's a relatively cold-blooded killer and yet we don't feel particularly compelled to see him get caught. Dexter's good with kids. He cares for his sister. He has an almost innocent immunity to sarcasm and innuendo. What is a little dismemberment? Maybe being a serial killer is a bit of anDexter dvd extreme character flaw, (though this may be reading into the show too much) he is just really an exaggeration of anyone who may have one or two strange quirks but function fine in the real world.

Overall, Dexter makes for compelling TV. It displays the violence and unfiltered language you would expect from Showtime, but doesn't sicken you with gore. It's a unique show that deserves a look even for theDexter dvd box set squeamish. Think of it as more of a character-driven version of CSI where the good guy and the bad guy are the same person.
