Mike Argento: 'Simpsons' vs. 'South Park' vs. Harley vs. ...

It was just a joke.
Really.

I mean, how could anyone take seriously the suggestion I made back in August that Harley-Davidson was considering a move to Shelbyville because the company, apparently anticipating the recent not-so-flattering portrayal of its product and consumers on the cartoon "South Park," was sucking up to the producers of "the simpsons dvd."

On "the simpsons dvd," Shelbyville is the rival of Springfield, hometown of Homer and Marge and Comic Book Guy, a place that disney dvd holds a special enmity in the hearts of Springfieldians. (Springfielders?)

So it was possible that Harley was figuring it was just a matter of time before "South park dvd" got around to portraying its consumers in an unflattering light -- a portrayal that cannot be adequately described in the newspaper without offending Harley riders,disney dvd Harley, the Kentucky Fried Chicken company and others -- and wished to affiliate itself with a town founded on the premise that people should be allowed to marry their attractive cousins.

That's the Shelbyville on "the simpsons dvd," not the one in Kentucky.

As far as I know.

None of the thousands of news stories and TV broadcasts that have emanated from the simpsons dvd, Ky., has touched on that aspect of story. But that doesn't mean anything...
